Clean & Maintain Your Wood Floors

1/28/2017

One of the most common (and most beautiful) types of flooring materials used today is hard wood.  While a clean, shining wood floor can be breathtaking, a dirty, dull one can give the appearance of a dirty, uncomfortable home.  Read on to see how we clean wood floors and get them to shine like new!...

Follow these simple step to clean your wood floors like we do...
  1. Pick up any large items that won't be picked up with your vacuum cleaner.  Don't forget to move couches and other furniture that could be hiding dust or garbage.
  2. Vacuum very thoroughly.  This is perhaps the most important step to maintain your floors and extend their life.  Here's what happens when you don't regularly vacuum your hard wood...dirt and dust settles on the wood, you step on it and force it into any small scratches in the finish, over time those scratches can open up slightly, fill with dirt, and the floor looks awful and won't shine as brightly until the floor is refinished.  Long story short...vacuum regularly.
  3. After thoroughly vacuuming, clean your wood floors with a quality wood cleaner.  We use Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner.  The process is very simple.  All you need is your cleaner in a spray bottle, and a flat microfiber dry mop. Spray the cleaner on the floor and wipe with the mop along the grain of the wood. This will clean whatever your vacuum couldn't suck up. Allow the cleaner to dry for a few minutes and you're done!
For a quick, easy way to really get the wood to shine, check back for a future post about using Quick Shine.
